Following their initial launch of HighHouse back in December 2023, NOVA took centre stage last week on 10 September 2024 with a stellar launch at the top of OUE Sky, 1 Raffles Place with electrifying music performances and mouth watering food. At the helm of these two iconic spots is Wayne Lee, a figure who has been a driving force in the evolution of Singapore’s nightlife.

As Wayne shared, “As the General Manager of HighHouse and NOVA (two nightlife and culinary destinations located at OUE Sky, 1 Raffles Place), I enjoyed a decade long career at Zouk Group prior to this current appointment and led the operations and business strategy as General Manager of the group’s nightlife business in Singapore. Before joining Zouk, I was the Editor-in-Chief of JUICE magazine, Singapore’s premier nightlife media publication during its time.”

HighHouse emerges as a day-to-night sanctuary that epitomises the convergence of music, art, flavours, and engaging conversations. Perched across Levels 61 and 62 of Raffles Place, it offers a vantage point with unparalleled views of the Singapore skyline. The essence of HighHouse is rooted in the vibrant flavours found where land meets sea, celebrating ingredients cherished by Pacific Coast communities. NOVA draws its inspiration from the eclectic and communal spirit of festivals. The vision for NOVA transcends traditional music festivals, embracing the larger festival culture known for its monumental installations, such as Coachella’s iconic stages and Burning Man’s emblematic effigy. This inspiration is embodied in a striking 10-metre star structure, a centrepiece born from the collaboration with Jun Ong, a renowned artist from Penang known for his captivating lighting installations. Discovered at ART SG two years ago, Jun’s work now stands as a testament to NOVA’s innovative spirit and its commitment to blending art with entertainment.

As Wayne describes, “Besides being located at one of the highest points in Singapore (282m above), the two venues celebrate the key pillars of ‘Food, Beverage, Art and Music’. Our cuisine is inspired by flavours of the Pacific Coast, and our music policy pushes House, Progressive and Techno music. We also feature 10 different artworks across both concepts that complement the space – from artists like Jacob Hashimoto and Wyn-Lyn Tan. The team has a strong belief that these elements can blend well to present an F&B concept that is unique and fun, and we’re glad we are on the right track!”

Taking over from the iconic 1-Altitude venue was no small feat, but Wayne saw it as a motivating challenge. As he shared, “We took over an iconic venue from one of the best operators in Singapore, and we knew we had big shoes to fill. That has always been a motivating factor for the project.”

When asked about any concerns or problems he faced, Wayne’s response was clear: “None at all.” He believes that “in Nightlife, change is the only constant,” and this adaptability and willingness to embrace change have been crucial in navigating the complexities of the industry.

Wayne is a staunch advocate for Singapore’s nightlife scene, believing in its potential to rank among the most exciting in Asia, and possibly, the world. As he explained, “Like many fellow industry counterparts, I believe in Singapore’s potential to have one of the most exciting nightlife scenes within Asia, and maybe, one day, the world. We just have to continue being competitive, with support from the Government.”
