Committee

The role of the Pro-tem Committee is to facilitate the setting up of a registered society to have representation in Singapore in order to assist its members to advance and champion causes, especially those peculiar to its industry. It aims to provide a safe and vibrant nightlife & club industry community in Singapore. In addition, the Pro-tem Committee will set the stage to help train, educate and improve the quality of hospitality service staff in Singapore to be one of an international standing. A professional management team will be selected to run the day to day affairs of the Association. For phase 1, the Pro-tem Committee will manage the affairs of the SNBA using the resources of its own members with encouragement from Statutory Boards.

A Pro-tem Committee will first be installed to help set up the Association. The Pro-tem members currently are :

President: Dennis Foo Jong Long

Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director of St James Holdings Ltd

In charge of the management, planning, overall strategy and day-to-day operations of St. James. Mr. Foo was a member of the Tourism Working Group of the Economic Review Committee in 2002, and chaired the task forces for Nightlife, Food & Beverage and Casino. He was named Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the Singapore Tourism Awards in 1999. In 2010, Mr. Foo received the Lifetime Achievement for Outstanding Contribution to Tourism award presented by the Singapore Tourism Board. He is a panelist of the Pro-Enterprise Panel established by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, member of WSH Council (Hospitality and Entertainment Industries), and member of WDA F&B Industry Skills & Training Council (ISTC).

Vice President: Tay Eu Yen

Executive Chairman, co-founder & majority shareholder of The Butter Factory Group

Eu-Yen has 7.5 years of experience in the nightlife industry & is legally trained with an LLB from Bristol University as well as a Masters of Studies in Legal Research with Distinction from Oxford University. She has been called to both the bars of Singapore & England/ Wales. The Butter Factory group currently operates The Butter Factory club at One Fullerton, Sauce bar at Esplanade Mall, & an events management company, Agenda (Events). The group also has an investment in Over Easy bar at One Fullerton & a franchise in the form of The Butter Factory KL.”

Secretary: Heather Seow

Co-Founder & Director of The Emerald Hill Group

She was the Executive Director of Juliana’s, a world-renowned and publicly-listed entertainment company in the ’80′s and ’90′s, managing over 45 discotheque contracts in 5 star hotels in SE Asia, Japan and Australia. She left the company in 1991 to set up her own sound and light consultancy firm and expanded into the bar/entertainment business at the same time. Heather was Chairman of the PCIP (Pubs & Clubs Industry Panel), an informal grouping of entertainment industry professionals spearheading change.  A founding partner of The Emerald Hill Group, owning and operating a stable of outlets in Singapore since 1991. Concurrently she’s Managing Director of CoreBPM Pte Ltd, a service provider to F & B businesses in Singapore.

Treasurer: Joseph Ong

Owner and Founder of the 1-Rochester Group of Concept Bars and Restaurants

has 8 years of experience in the Nightlife industry.  Joseph is a CPA and a Senior Finance Director in Symantec responsible for Asia Pacific and Japan. Separately, Joseph is also the founder and chairman of the 1-Rochester Group; an award winning Lifestyle group that currently manages 8 different business concepts with annual turnover of about $24m. The business initially started off as an MBA project and it grew to its current size organically over 6 years. The group has won numerous awards for its Dining (Stellar, One Rochester), Night Business (1-Altitude Bar, 1-26), Weddings (Host) and Pattiserie (1-Caramel) concepts. The Group is currently Singapore’s largest wedding planner (1-Host) and operates Singapore’s highest viewing gallery (1-Altitude Gallery).

Andrew Ing

Chief Operating Officer of the Lo & Behold Group

Andrew Ing brings over 20 years industry experience in marketing, events, nightlife operations and management to The Lo & Behold Group.  As Chief Operating Officer, Andrew directly oversees operations across the group.  Prior to joining The Lo & Behold Group in March 2012, he served as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of St James Holdings Ltd from 2005.  From 2001 to 2005, Andrew was the regional project director of The Filter Group Pte Ltd, handling major advertising projects for clients and providing support for public relations agency work. He served as Marketing Manager of Zouk Management Pte Ltd from 1993 to 2001 and Marketing Manager of International Concert Productions Co. Ltd in Hong Kong from 1990 to 1993. Andrew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Marketing) from the University of New South Wales, Australia. 

Edward Chia

Co-Founder and Managing Director, Timbre Group

Co-founded Timbre at 21 with the social mission of developing the Singapore music scene through the talent cultivation of local musicians, and growing sustainable audiences for them. Today, the Group has evolved into a holistic music lifestyle company with a diversified yet synergistic portfolio of businesses ranging from food and beverage, concert and festivals promotion, and music education. It currently comprises six live music restaurants and bars, two international festivals (Timbre Rock & Roots and Beerfest Asia), a pizza restaurant and delivery service, an artist management agency, and a music academy. Edward concurrently serves on the Action Community for Entrepreneurship (ACE) and the Arts & Culture Strategic Review (ACSR) committees.    In 2010 Edward and the Group’s  Co-Founder Danny Loong were awarded Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year by the Singapore Tourism Board. In 2011, Edward was awarded Outstanding Young Alumni by the National University of Singapore.

G. Clark Martin

 

Has been actively involved in the Food & Beverage industry for the last 28 years and was instrumental in planning, setting up and running several food & beverage establishments in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore. He has been living and working in Singapore for over 16 years.   His two decades of experience includes research, development, procurement of specialised furniture and equipment, operational / conceptualisation design, consulting with local government planning departments and various boards. Currently, G. Clark Martin helms seven food & beverage brands such as Highlander Bar & Restaurant, The Queen & Mangosteen, Octapas Spanish Tapas Bar, The Living Room, Little Saigon Restaurant & Bar,The GIG and The Dempsey Brasserie. Highlander Bar & Restaurant was honoured as   Epicure Magazine’s Top 10 Coolest Bar in 2010. With more than ten openings, planning and initialisation of expansion for companies, G. Clark Martin fully understands the depth and knowledge of the industry, its demands and the continual changes.

Kwek Kon Chun

Founder and Managing Partner of Neverland Group

Neverland first opened its doors in 2009.  The Neverland stable of clubs include its flagship Neverland (Orchard Plaza, SG), Neverland 2 (St James Power Station, Singapore), Neverland KL (Malaysia) & Sonar by Neverland (Orchard Hotel, Singapore).  Prior to his full-time venture into the entertainment industry, he served as Vice-President of Corporate Management in the Chief Executive Officer’s office at Hong Leong Asia Ltd – a multi-national corporation in the manufacturing and building materials industry that is listed on the SGX.  A Non Independent and Non Executive Director of Tasek Corporation Berhad since November 11, 2009, Kon Chun also holds directorships in a number of subsidiary companies of Hong Leong Asia in China and Malaysia.  Mr. Kwek holds a Master of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with Masters in Management from Imperial College, London. He is also a fellow alumni of Raffles Junior College & Raffles Institution.

Martinn Teng

Owner of 51 Holdings Pte Ltd and its group of companies

Martinn has 10 years of experience in the nightlife and F&B industry. The group currently operates two pubs,  three cabaret night clubs and two food establishments in Singapore and has investments in residential construction projects in Xi An and Xiamen China.

Advisor: Wendell Wong

 

Wendell Wong is a respected civil and criminal lawyer. His civil practice includes commercial, shareholder and director disputes, medical negligence and cross-border arbitration. His criminal practice focuses on commercial fraud, securities, corruption, and corporate governance-related offences including regulatory offences in the night-life entertainment industry as well. He is an avid supporter of pro-bono work in the legal community. Chambers and Partners commends his regional work related to the US FCPA Act. Legal 500 ranks Wendell high in the area of dispute resolution. Wendell is also recognised by Who’s Who Legal as an outstanding Business Crime Defence lawyer in Singapore. Wendell joined Drew & Napier in 2000, having spent three years as Deputy Public Prosecutor/ State Counsel with the Attorney General’s Chambers. He is the Chairman of the Criminal Practice Committee, Law Society of Singapore.
